What's New with JTP | Northern Virginia Photographer

Hey friends! So much has been going on here at Jessica Tapscott Photography and I have to fill you all in!

I started this business eight and a half years ago with a basic DSLR camera and a dream to make a better life for my family. That dream has grown into a business more successful than I could have ever imagined. But let me get real for a second... For the last 18 to 24 months I have reflected on my business, my dream, and realized that something wasn't right. I have always believed that the Lord has blessed me with this gift of photography. But in all honesty, me and this photography thing....we have been pretty hot and cold over these past two years or so.

I explored the clothing business world with LuLaRoe, and I found success there. And while many told me I should stop my photography and focus on growing a team of amazing women with that business, the pull of photography was always there. It is my passion and my purpose. So what's the problem right? I couldn't quite put my finger on it until I saw a quote posted on Instagram by the inspiring Rachal Hollis, author of Girl, Wash Your Face.

"Success doesn't make you invincible, it makes you lazy and complacent." - Keith Cunningham

This quote truly could not have resinated any deeper with me. That is exactly how I was feeling. Complacent. Content. I was doing enough to get by, but I had hit a plateau. I realized that I had hit my growth potential working out of my home. So when I was approached about the opportunity to rent the space that is now the new home of Jessica Tapscott Photography, I knew in my gut that I had to take a chance. Or as Steve Harvey would say, I had to JUMP. The only way we ever experience growth, personal or in business, is to step outside our comfort zone. So that's what I did. I jumped. I trusted God's plan for my life and the talent he has blessed me with.

And isn't God's timing perfect?

Running this business from my home was such a blessing when my children were small and needed me all the time. It gave me the freedom to be home with them and available for them whenever they needed me. But now that my youngest is almost ten, they don't need me in the same way, and now I have the opportunity to focus on and grow my business.

This business is so much more than a way for me to help support my family financially. I am teaching my boys about hard work, dedication, and the power of following your dreams. I am showing them that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Everything seems to have fallen into place so beautifully with the new studio, although it has not been without its struggles. While the location could not be more perfect, only a few miles from my home, the renovation process was much more stress than I was prepared for. The space was turned over to me months later than I had anticipated, but as I mentioned earlier, God's timing is so perfect. The delays in construction and permitting allowed me the time to slowly acquire the new equipment, furniture, and props that I needed, reducing the stress of debt accumulation.

And look at this place! Look how amazing the transformation has been! I still have to pinch myself when I drive up and walk through the door.

Isn't she beautiful!! But the inside is what really gives me all the feels! I have moved from roughly 250 square feet inside my home to 800 square feet of perfection. My own dedicated space to do my thing. Stay tuned for a post ALL about the inside of my new happy place!

This has been such a humbling experience for me. I am in awe of the power of prayer and way that God has been moving in my life. I am so grateful for those who have supported me and have been cheering me on. This was a leap of faith, and I have a lot more growing to do. But I am ready for this! I am ready to take on my next chapter.
